What's hot in bathroom vanity units?

Vanity is all about taking pride in one's self, so why not put the same effort into choosing your next bathroom vanity unit? According to Luciana Sanelli from Marbletrend, what's hot in bathroom vanity units right now is wall-hung units with a stone top and either an under-counter basin or a vessel that sits on the top.

White, of course, remains the most popular colour choice when it comes to the doors and drawers. "But people are also moving towards dark black and brown veneers, as well as multi-coloured veneers," Luciana says.

A current favourite of hers is a stone bench with an under-counter basin and soft-closing drawers and doors. "It's a winning combination: clean, sharp lines, no handles, metal drawer dividers and a great timber veneer with a rough texture," she says.

But what's out of flavour, Luciana goes on to say, is the traditional two-door/three-drawer vanity unit that goes all the way to the floor. Solid timber vanity units are also a dated look. Instead, the trend is towards timber veneer in bathroom vanity units.

"In fact, we update our own vanity range every two years, either by adding a new feature or introducing a fresh colour," Luciana explains. "The market demands this change. Having said that, traditional units will always sell to a certain market (building or renting) and remain popular at a price point."

When it comes to the question of what is an appropriate height for a bathroom vanity unit, Luciana explains that most units should stand at around 850 millimetres high. "Personally I think 42 inches (1060 millimetres) is too high for a bathroom vanity unit," she says. "To put things in perspective, vanities that come in at 900 millimetres are the same height as kitchen benches."

And while it's fantastic to boast the latest vanity in your bathroom, be aware that certain aspects of it can date quite quickly, such as the colour, the style of basin and the handles. If you want to avoid updating your bathroom vanity every two years, keep it simple. "The simpler the design, the longer it lasts," says Luciana.
