Home theatre cable unifies all your entertainment devices

We are living in the information age and every song and movie in the world could be playing in every room of your house right now. The trick is to get your house smart wired, using the right type of cabling.

Cabling is easy if you're building a new home, but retro-fitting a house with cables presents a more complex challenge. "For most of Australia, cabling has to be done when the house is being built, because most houses are made from brick. Gyprock walls can be changed but brick can't," says Brenton from Intelligent Home.

Setting-up Home Theatre Cable

If you do have a house in the planning stages, it is definitely worth cabling it now for future use.

To fit out existing properties, home theatre cable has to run along the floor or around exterior walls, and so they'll never be hidden entirely.

You also need to research the type of home theatre cable you use. "For example, some cables aren't compatible with certain brands of sound systems, so it pays to do your homework," says Brenton.

Home Theatre Cable is Your Ticket to the World

Once cabled, the options are endless. "I think the thing people need to get their heads around is that everything is or will be available on the internet - music, movies, pictures, radio and TV.

"The way it works now, people typically have a PC with all their music, movie downloads and family pictures stored in the study, and this is where you have to go to view everything. But with you can now set up a device that drags the information from the computer hard drive and plays it on your entertainment wall," Brenton says.

"This way you can access everything, including the internet, from your plasma screen, and you could have multiple home theatre cable outlets throughout the house where everyone can watch or listen to different things in different rooms."

You can also have audio outlets installed into the roof of each room, connected to a music system that plays all of your favourite songs. The remote control for this can also be used to upload a movie or even pay TV onto the main television in the house, while the children sit in another room watching a different program altogether.
