The advantages of employing a pool care expert

Having a 'pool guy' come around and service your pool once a fortnight may seem like a Hollywood cliché, but in reality, regular professional pool care can save you dollars down the track.

Besides cleaning out leaves, checking for problems with equipment and keeping an eye out for leaks, a pool care professional monitors water quality and comes up with a sanitisation regime to suit your needs and lifestyle.

Pool Care Professionals Can Provide a Better Swimming Experience

Typical pool chemicals can leave skin feeling dry and even cause allergies in some swimmers. Pool care experts look beyond throwing in a chlorine tablet every now and then and explore more user-friendly options. For example, ionising systems that use natural antibacterial properties such as copper and iron without the need for regular chlorine top-ups are often a gentler alternative and can save money in the long run.

"Our long-term goal is to reduce overall chemical use," says Nigel Tang of Triclean, a pool and garden maintenance team with a staff of five. "Chlorine doesn't smell good, it doesn't feel good on you and some people are allergic to it. We try and reduce that by using things like ionising systems that naturally kill the bacteria in the water."

With an education in horticulture, Nigel also believes it's important to include a bit of garden knowledge as part of the pool care job. After all, there's no point cleaning a pool only to have grass and leaves dirty it up again.

"The pool is a part of the garden, so pool care and garden maintenance relate to each other," says Nigel. "We keep an eye on things like overhanging trees and try to work it all in together."

And when the sunny days subside and the family has all but forgotten about the swimming pool, you can rely on a pool care professional to keep an eye on the water. It might not seem important in the colder months, but maintaining water hygiene in winter saves a lot of work come the warmer weather.

"In winter we usually service our pools every four weeks," says Nigel. "The last thing our customers want is a green pool in spring."
