What lighting and accessories should people consider for the home?

Beacon Lighting believes in designing a lighting package that allows flexibility, functionality and ambience. Are there lighting design packages for those on a tight renovation budget?

A lot can be done with lighting, and great effects can be created if you get the right lighting design. I would strongly suggest going into a lighting store, such as Beacon Lighting, or getting a trained consultant out to the home to plan an appropriate lighting design - this way you will get it right the first time.

What are some of the recent lighting developments?

The latest lighting movements in technology have been focused around miniaturisation of standard fluorescent lamps into compact fluorescent lamps. The fluorescent lamp has come a long way in the past 10 years and is now small, bright and long-lasting enough to be a very viable replacement for the incandescent lamp, which consumes five times the electricity.

The next lighting trends will be focused around LED (light-emitting diode) technology and using this extremely energy-efficient light source in domestic and commercial buildings.

What outdoor lighting options are there?

The latest lighting trend to emerge is the use of crystal and chrome fittings in the home; this is usually in the form of modern chandeliers and table lamps. Also very popular are 'earthy', eco-finished products using timber, wicker, plywood and natural fabrics.
