There are many ways to start your search for the roofing contractor who meets your needs. Referrals, friends and family members are a primary step to choosing the right roofer, but not always the most sound. We caught up with Ryan Marriner to find out how to choose a roofing contractor.

Ensure good and safe roof access is established from the outset (for both workers and materials) and erect all necessary fall protection. While this costs to install, it allows for quicker work and a better overall job, eliminating later call-backs and repairs. It also ensures that the roof lasts.
Often on older houses roof timbers need replacing, as they can't be reaffixed. It's best to get a thorough inspection before commencing work, or allow for replacement of timber even if it doesn't end up being necessary. Over-estimate your costs, don't underestimate them.
You really do get what you pay for – if you opt for the cheapest price you will get the cheapest job. Beware of cheap and inferior roof materials (metal), as they are thin and will not last.
