Building a pool above ground

What does your job involve on a day-to-day basis?

The business has been serving the local community since 1979. I have owned Peninsula Pools since 2001 and have transformed what was predominantly a local pool shop into one that provides for not only the local area, but the Victorian community as a whole.

What range of products and services does your business provide?

Our driving force has always been the sales and support of the above-ground, modular pools market. With new technology available through research and development, our products continually lead the market.

How would you advise a customer interested in purchasing an above-ground pool?

Advice can only be given when you have heard what the consumer's expectations are. I listen to their needs and then have them come into the display centre to see what the products look like. At that time we discuss what may be the best options for them and their families.

What changes in the industry have you seen in recent years?

The main changes are with the professionalism that is coming into the industry. When I entered the business, my impressions were that it was an industry that had failed to bring the needs of the consumer to the fore. Now there's more of an eye for what can be done to improve things for tomorrow.

What new technologies are there in above-ground pools?

The main change has been with the introduction of the salt-water models. This used to be an option that was only available with concrete or fibreglass pools. Also, the introduction of the braceless pool creates an opportunity to reduce the amount of fencing, as it is only required around the ladder.

What new trends are there?

There has been a trend in the last five years for installing above-ground pools in-ground, using decking to create a look that mimics a more expensive installation. What was once seen as a water tank on the ground can now resemble paradise in your own garden. Imagination is the only obstacle.
