Swimming pool design advice from an expert

What does your job entail on a day-to-day basis?

My job is looking after the whole operation of Pool Fab.

What are the trends in pool design these days?

Large pools - and that's what we pretty much focus on. We do a lot of architecturally designed large pools and lap pools. Also portholes are popular. You might have the pool attached to the side of the house and you can have a porthole to look into the pool, so the pool becomes part of the house.

How does your business stand out from the crowd?

We take on a lot of pools that others walk away from. We're not afraid to take on pools with a degree of difficulty in terms of design and location. We take on a bit of challenge.

What new technologies are you using as part of your work?

We tend to stay with tried-and-true proven materials. We always look at new products but are a bit reluctant to get into things that haven't been tested and proved.

Has the pool business changed in light of the recent water restrictions?

Not much has changed in this area. There's certainly some concern. There should be no reason for concern, as we have undergone positive changes to deal with the restrictions.

How is Pool Fab water friendly?

We look at ways of counteracting any restrictions that may come in in the future – for example, the use of storage tanks. While the excavating is going on, we look for ways to make the pool efficient, by catching water off the roof rather than using it from the tap.
