What do you do at Stylemaster Patios?

We design and construct patios, carports, pool enclosures, decking and specialist glass rooms. The customer comes to us and tells us their individual needs and we design and then install a structure to suit. As project manager I oversee the process from quote through to construction.

How did you end up in your current role at Stylemaster Patios?

I feel it came about because of the vast experience I've accumulated during years of building, and also because of my ability to deliver on promises – I like to think that I make things happen. I can also relate to all different types of people, which helps in this job.

Is it necessary to have hands-on experience to be good at your job?

I think it is because then you can work out solutions and have an understanding of what works and what doesn't. It also helps to have that builder's perspective when you go out and give a quote.

Do you spend much time 'on the tools' these days?

Not so much these days. The only time I really get on the tools is when the builder needs some specialised support, and I always really enjoy that. Our company is expanding into new premises and as part of that I will be required to design and build displays for the new showroom.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

Keeping everything running smoothly and making sure all is on schedule. In my role I'm often juggling 10 or more different jobs at the same time, which can become a bit of a balancing act.

What are some current trends in patio design and construction?

Dome roofs are increasing in popularity, along with our new range of wave-roof patio covers. Open gable end, Dutch gable and hip roofs are also popular. The chief aim of a patio is to enhance a space and create a focal point at the same time.
