Most garden supplies revolve around garden edging, the right plants for the season and other garden products. So what about when you’re not after the most fancy design? We caught up with Bark King’s Jeff Johnston to find out what bark can do for your garden.
A. I am one of the directors. My role is to make sure that everything runs smoothly. I'm responsible for the production and manufacture of stock. In other words, I make sure we always have stock on hand to provide our customers with a good-quality product.
A. Our products are made from a range of different materials, including pine bark, recycled timber, pine chips, bush mulch, softwoods and hardwoods. Garden mulch is used to help retain moisture in the soil by reducing evaporation. It's also used in playgrounds around play equipment, for safety.
A. We have certainly noticed an increase in demand for mulch recently. This is because of the drought and people's increased awareness of the need to be water efficient in the garden. People understand how important mulch is in keeping soils moist and plants healthy during extended dry spells.
A. It's a machine that allows you to spread large quantities of mulch. It's good for hard-to-reach places and means you don't have to carry the mulch long distances in a wheelbarrow. The hose can be 80 metres in length, so the machine can be used in domestic gardens as well as larger commercial jobs
A. I enjoy everything about my job, but I guess my absolute favourite part would be when I can jump in the truck and go out on site to deliver the product. I love catching up with landscapers, finding out what's going on in the industry, talking shop and just getting hands on.
A. Bark King is a family-owned business that sources industry byproducts and waste and converts them into usable garden mulch. We have a wide variety of mulches available in a selection of grades, materials and textures and we distribute these mulches, along with natural barks.
