Budget bathroom ideas

1. Bathroom accessories

Adding some new bathroom accessories can give an instant lift to a tired old bathroom look, and can be fairly cheap if you shop around. Try a new towel rack, hooks, bathroom shower caddy and soap dish in a matching style. Add a splash of colour with some new towels, or bathroom floor coverings.

2. Paint a bathroom

One of the simplest ways to freshen up your bathroom is to give it a new coat of paint. You could update the colour scheme or just freshen-up paint that may have discoloured over the years. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, why not hang a painting on the wall?

3. Resurrect your bathroom shower appearance

An old shower can be made new again by freshening up the grout and caulk. Replace that tired old shower curtain, or if you have the budget, consider installing a frameless shower screen - these can really enhance the sense of space in a bathroom.

4. Resurface a bath tub

If your bath tub is chipped or cracked, but you don't have the money to replace it, why not consider having it resurfaced? It costs about a third of the price of buying a new one and is usually guaranteed for seven years.

5. Take care of the details

They may not take centre stage in your bathroom, but little things like new tapware and showerheads can make a big difference. Update your cabinetry by replacing the handles, or consider replacing that scratched benchtop.

6. Light it up

If your bathroom is dark and dingy, bringing in some light will immediately make it feel more spacious and inviting. Consider installing a skylight, or if natural light is not an option, update your existing lighting with some modern fittings.
