Overhauling the ensuite bathroom

When Kristian and Kristy discovered they had a leaking shower tray, they approached a bathroom renovator to inspect the problems. 

Rather than just fix the shower, though, Craig Maltman of CD Bathroom Renovations convinced the couple to do a complete overhaul of their ensuite bathroom.

Completing the home renovation with style

Having recently completed a kitchen renovation, as well as painting and laying new carpet, it was important to Kristian and Kristy that their new ensuite integrate well with the other areas of the house. "We wanted something modern and a little bit contemporary to continue with the theme that we've got through the rest of the home," says Kristian.

They entrusted the ensuite design to Craig and his team, who set about transforming the space into an oasis. "The old bathroom had a closed-in shower with a tiny little bathroom vanity, so we opened it up by creating an ensuite shower with a frameless screen," says Craig.

For greater privacy, Craig used a sandblasted glass pane to screen the toilet from the shower. "The bottom half of the screen is white sandblasted, so it hides the toilet from view when you stand in the doorway," he says.

Bathroom colour schemes for the ensuite interior

Craig devised the unique tile colour with the assistance of an interior designer at the tile shop, settling on a vibrant blue for the wall niches and shower wall. The striped brown bathroom floor tiling echoes the mocha tones in the kitchen, and creates a feeling of unity in the home's total design.

But for Kristian, the walk-in shower is his favourite aspect of the new bathroom. "We really like having just a pane of glass for a screen, and the unique look of the floor waste, which is like a grille that runs the width of the shower and stops water pooling there," he says.

The couple is extremely happy with their new ensuite and they’re planning on having Craig complete more work on their home in the future.
