A luxury home and indoor pool

Designer Rasem Guirguis of Barrelle Guirguis Architects found himself in the enviable position of designing a luxury home for some friends, complete with an indoor swimming pool.

This luxury home design in Blakehurst NSW was the ideal home for a family with two professionals at the helm. Doctors Wagdy and Maggie were determined to build themselves a stylish abode that suited their busy lifestyle, and which would provide enough space for a family of three high-spirited boys.

A contemporary and spacious home design

The couple wanted their new home to be contemporary and full of airy, open spaces. Having enough garage space was also important to them, as was being surrounded by as much green garden as possible. Adequate storage space around the home was also a must.

To realise their dream, the couple engaged the services of architect and friend Rasem Guirguis, who integrated their home ideas with his own. The result is the open, spacious home the couple dreamed of, with one extra special addition - an indoor swimming pool.

Indoor swimming pool extravaganza

Unsurprisingly, the luxury swimming pool is the standout feature and even through it’s located in the basement, the overall home design makes it feel like a part of the house.

A stone feature wall at one end of the pool is replicated on a smaller scale in one of the bathrooms, and a low ceiling and tasteful tile designs work make the space seem homey rather than cavernous.

Inside, warm polished blackbutt floorboards and lower ceilings in the living areas consolidate this cosy feel. In the passageways and stairwells the ceiling reaches higher, creating a striking, almost gallery-like effect.

The concrete staircase, with blackbutt treads and risers, is a feature in itself, with its imposing, heavily balustraded form giving the house its 'centre'.

Barrelle Guirguis Architects custom designed the ultra-modern front door, which was made by Diffuse Light and Glass.

The rendered brickwork exterior (Granosite) gives the house a clean, smooth appearance, while the reddish UrbanStone pavers add a slightly rustic touch to the garden.
